Electrotunning (2010)
I attended an MacLab residency in Birmingham for the grand reopening of the MIdlands Art's Centre following it's refurbishment in 2010. The brief was simply to respond to the space. In 2000 Lynne McTaggart published The Field which was a life changing read for me. The natural notions of spirituality I had grown up with were here plotted in scientific coda. |
Here was a langauge that I could talk with, and not have people rolling thier eyes. I wanted to create a work which extended the perceptual range of the audience, to show that a percievable vast empty space was in fact teaming with activity. I used Pick-up coil microphones to record the inaudible electromagnetic frequencies emitted by electrified objects, and matched those harmonic octaves their with visual resonators.
