Collective Consciousness (2004).
Collective Consciousness is a community Installation that uses Sympathtic Resonance to guide the brain into specific frequency states. A repeated cyclic resonance emitted from one object, will over time cause objects in its vicinity to take on its frequency. In this work two large speakers boxes emited low frequency sine tones with a difference of 6.5 Hz (Theta) to create a beating effect. This resonace which is normally inaudible to human hearing, could be heard and felt throughout the wooden terrace structure.
The work references Mark Bain's mechanical resonators which he attached to structures such as bridges, which in turn reference Nikola Tesla's Earthquake experiments using frequency oscillation.
We are surrounded by technology that emits constant cyclic waves, it is a form of pollution that is not discussed, neither is it impact and influence on us unvieled. If our brains are susceptible to Sympathetically Resonance, where is the line of our all our thoughts and actions being ours.
