Issues and Scope
Previously, the branding for the Universities online degrees had always been produced in a silo format. Freelancers had engaged with each course as a single entity. Whilst the portfolio of courses maintains the same structure, visually they veer wildly. The three examples of courses above highlight this. Data Science, Supply Chain Management, and Computer Science show these disparities in their 3 main functional spaces; Titles (Upper row), presenter space (middle row), text space (lower row). Whilst they all have their merits, it is difficult to see a singular voice, which conveys some form of identity or goal. A process of deconstruction highlighted several key points to work on. (i) The form & function of the space, (ii) Longevity, (iii) Audience connectivity. (iv) coherent identity.

Design Solution | Umbrella House Style.
Titles
A principle of ‘Ambient Design’ was selected as the umbrella aesthetic across the assets. To complete a degree with the University of London one may need to watch a few hundred videos. Repetative events can quickly become jarring. The Ambient approach gave more weight to the information being exchanged. It made them the aesthetic feature. By giving them prominance in the space it furnishes them with a particular form of athourity. UoL Brand colours served as colour fields to scaffold the assets within the space. The Intro titles were kept short– A University of London logo set in a contextual ambient scene. This holds the space until the dominant lecture topic name appears.
Above are examples of the Wipes (left- cyber security) and Outro (right Artificial Intelligence) . These bespoke assets were created for each degree course.
ASE / Presenter space
The presenter backplates were stripped back to course brand colours. A range of colour tones, and accents of varying height were also created for variance and flexibility.
Templated Text/Typography
I switched out Robotslab to Arial for accessibility, and created PowerPoints with a range of font sizes for scale variance so they could be used widely by the team. This allowed for text to become a prominent feature Punctuated text reduced streams of bullets points. It also the prevented redundant text being displayed, and to create a flow of focused information through pacing.
Infographics
The infographics followed the clean, crisp aesthetic with prominent syntax. A style guide was produced including motifs, symbols, and weights, so any base structure for any infographic could be created and then built upon.
Illustration
A wide range of illustration styles were introduced, bespoke to each to degree course and situation.
