A Return To Source

All the works held within this archive, bar Exit 9 (1996) derive from a single large scale piece I created in 1996-7 on the streets of Leeds,UK. Whilst living out in Utrecht, Holland a good friend and writer 'IF' introduced me to the art of tagging. Back in the perfidious Albion I began placing stickers featuring hand written tags on everything, everyone, and everywhere.
These developed into these into different formats and styles, including full blown digital prints, and sequences. At the time I was living in what was known as the 'Golden Triangle' at the top of Headingly, and one road went all the way into the City. During the day I would prepare mixtapes and stickers, during the night I would paint my soundtrack on to the abandoned streets of Leeds. I would place clusters of stickers which I called notes, on to any suitable surfaces. It was like painting the music i was hearing. Barely noticeable at first, each night it got louder and louder, like turning the volume up until you couldn’t ignore it any more.
Making work is often thinking time, and this allowed me that deep thinking space from where the two questions that have led my practice forwards formed. So this new work comprising of various sculptural, typographical, and humanoid 3d prints is form of homage to my 27 year old self, who having left art school, took that risk and followed his intuition, asked those questions, and began seeking and making. For me it's a Return To The Source or the first mark in my work.
This first new test piece was placed 25th April 2026. New works placed around various areas of London, including Camden, Bloomsbury, Southbank and others can be seen here
