Journals and Sketchbooks are the creatives constant companion, a neccesity required close at hand. I have carried a sketchbook for over 3 decades. It is where everything is recorded. For some, they are a sacred place. A hermetic personal space where ideas can appear, germinate, and motifs and symbols to arise. Over time one can track thoughts and the maturation of ideas. I still pull ideas from 30+ years. Looking at a old scrawl allows me to access that time, and look again with wiser eyes.
I have aways wanted to develop some of the drawings in my sketchbook. Here I redrew them and added some short prose , thoughts, ideas, quotes, homages, and general meanderings. I see them as Hai-ku influenced prose. This presentation is inspired by a memory of the free booklet found inside the original Crass box set 'Christ the Album' - called 'A Series of Shock Slogans & Mindless Token Tantrums'. |
