InvAsian (2009)
InvAsian is a partial insight into the Asian Male experience in the aftermath of the horrific 2007 London tube bombings. The film begins with the repeated phrase "Insiduous Aliens" over a beatboxed rendition of a train clanking through the Punjabi hillsides. It culminates in the barely audible "were taking over". Visually, dark figures emerge from dank environments undetected by thier adjacent travellers. They become palpable only through the camera lens (see John Carpenters They Live (1988)) given away by their luminous eyes, reminiscent of David Cronenbergs movie posters for his 1981 cult movie Scanners.
The film points towards the hightened paranoia, discomfort, and distrust experienced at that moment. In the wider context the lower reverberations of those terms are always evident daily. The term Alienification is also acknowledged here. InvAsian was filmed live on the northboud Shaatabi express, and edited at Studio 71, Spike Island, Bristol.
